Norfolk Tourist Information / Towns & Villages

S Club star Hannah Spearritt hails from the town, and fellow pop singer Myleene Klass a former member of the band Hear’say, was also brought up in the town. Both retain close links with the town and are known to visit from time to time.

The town dates back to before the Roman period but has always struggled to escape the shadow of its bigger neighbour Yarmouth. The unequal relationship is even said to have caused festering bad feeling between the people of Gorleston and Yarmouth from the Middle Ages until the 19th century.

Gorleston-on-Sea has its own ‘bay’ with sandy beaches stretching into the distance. Beach chalets and sun traps are available to give that extra secluded protection. Safe bathing, wind surfing, yachting and jet skiing can all be enjoyed by both the active and the passive spectator. The parade of beach-side shops offer a wide selection of goodies from a beach tea-tray to a beach ball, a multi-flavoured ice cream to a multi-coloured bucket and spade.

On the cliff top you’ll find pretty gardens, bowling greens and tennis courts and a panoramic view from the harbour mouth to the cliffs at Corton near Lowestoft. The resort has its own theatre, the Gorleston Pavilion, with its popular long running seaside shows and its own nightspot, the Ocean Rooms, plus a casino, bingo hall, pitch and putt, golf course, amusement park and ample parking (some free!). The range of holiday accommodation ensures that you will always get the warmest of welcomes.
