| Baconsthorpe Castle |
Reached via a maze of tiny lanes in rural countryside are, the historical ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle managed by English Heritage.
Built by the Norfolk Heydon family as both a manor house and wool processing factory. Dating from the 15th century, the Castle was begun in 1450 and completed in 1486.
The family Heydon came originally from Heydon village.
Falling fortunes resulted in the family occupying only the Castle gatehouse, which they lived in until 1920, when one of the turrets collapsed. |
