    Norfolk Wildlife Centre
The Wildlife Centre was opened in 1963 by the Norfolk naturalist Philip Wayre OBE and was the first green-field, country park, wildlife collection in the United Kingdom. In November 2000 Philip Wayre sold the Centre to the current owners, Barbara and Stephen Bealey, who had previously been keepers at the park in the 1970's.

Our main aim is to maintain the naturalness of the Centre, whilst improving the animal's environment and visitor's facilities. Since November 2000 we have introduced new animals, including Red Squirrels, Meerkats, Storks and Black Swans, and increased the size of our herds and flocks to improve their breeding potential. Some enclosures have been extended and new displays, like a Pet's Pavilion and reptiles introduced. Plans for 2003 include a small animal house, a petting area and new activity playground.

Since taking over our breeding successes include Mara, Mouflon sheep, Red and Fallow deer, Benett's Wallaby and European Lynx. We have also become partners with the Wings Raptors bird of prey flying display team. Wings Raptors, have a bird of prey Centre near the Model Farm and between April and October they provide flying displays twice daily, weather permitting, except on Fridays when the birds are rested and fed.

We hope that these improvements and those that we are continuing to carry out help to make your visit to the Centre more enjoyable.
